New Construction Industry Scheme

With less than a year to go before the implementation of the New Construction Industry Scheme (New CIS) changes, it is important that the industry gears up now to take on the rapidly approaching responsibilities and requirements associated with the new procedures.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is urging the industry to get ready for its introduction in April 2007 and reminding contractors that they need to be ready for three big changes:

  • Cards and certificates are being replaced by a 'verification' service to confirm whether subcontractors should be paid gross or net.
  • Instead of issuing vouchers, contractors will make monthly returns and issue pay statements.
  • The monthly return will include a declaration that the contractor has considered the status of the workers on the return and that none of them is an employee.

Committed to providing a range of tangible and practical support services of interest and benefit to those within the industry, Scottish Building Federation is keen that all members are aware of the changes and where to go for further information and advice.  Recently the Federation hosted a series of free seminars for their members to ensure they were all informed of the changes and consequences and effects on their businesses.

Whether gaining first-hand information via a simulation of the functions of the anticipated new computerised system or posing questions to industry experts, attending such seminars and training courses can make the difference between sinking and swimming in a sea of change.

As a Federation, Scottish Building Federation is ensuring that its' membership is kept up to speed with all changes and information, therefore if you ar not a member, now is the time to think about taking the step to become a member, or potentially you could be a sinker!

Please explore this section to find out more about the New CIS changes and how they will affect you.
