Key Messages
The Scottish Building Federation (SBF) is the lead voice of the construction industry in Scotland.
The SBF has several key messages:
- The SBF is the leading employers' federation for the industry, representing over 700 companies from Orkney to the Borders.
- The overall aim of the SBF is to ensure that the important contribution of the Scottish construction industry to Scotland's economy and society is recognised and valued.
- The SBF provides a range of invaluable support services to small single trade firms, major regional companies and national contractors.
- The shared objective that all SBF members have in common is their commitment to health and safety, skills and integrity, ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of performance, professionalism and quality within the industry in Scotland.
- The construction industry is a major contributor to the Scottish economy, responsible for around £10billion or 10% of Scotland's annual economic output ³.
- The Sector employes over 200,000 people in Scotland, and 90% of all workers are skilled professionals*.
- Around one third of all apprentices in training in Scotland are employed in the construction trade; the associated trades (electricians and plumbers) take this number to almost half of the total º.
