Parliament and Political Issues

Construction is not generally given the recognition it deserves as one of the key sectors of the Scottish economy – and its size, relative to other sectors, is often overlooked.

The Scottish Building Federation (SBF) is committed to ongoing engagement with Scotland's 32 local authorities, with the Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament and other key stakeholders to ensure that the voice of the Scottish construction industry is heard loud and clear.

The SBF regularly makes written and oral submissions to calls for evidence from Scottish Parliament committees on subjects of direct relevance to the construction industry.  It also submits evidence to the Scottish Government consultations on the preparation of policies with a direct impact on the building sector.

Through forums such as the Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group on Construction, the Scottish Construction Industry Group and the Contractors College, the SBF maintains a regular dialogue with Scottish Parliamentarians, Ministers and other key stakeholders, as well as directly hosting regular discussion meetings with key political stakeholders on behalf of its membership, at both a national and local level.
